Companies Growing Event to Support MySQL's Expansion in Business and Open Source Communities

O'Reilly Open Source Convention, Portland, OR--MySQL AB and O'Reilly Media, Inc. announced today that they will partner to present the third annual MySQL Users Conference, slated for April 18-21, 2005, in Santa Clara, CA. The announcement was made today by Zack Urlocker, vice president of Marketing at MySQL, and O'Reilly CEO Tim O'Reilly at the O'Reilly Open Source Convention.

By wedding MySQL AB's definitive expertise in the world's most popular open source database with O'Reilly's like-minded open source values and conference planning capability, the partnership is intended to produce the best possible learning experience for MySQL users.

"MySQL is at the heart of revolutionary changes in the computer industry--not just as a leading open source company, but because of the importance of databases as a component in virtually all next generation applications. Better information about how to deploy and use MySQL is key to maximizing its potential," noted Tim O'Reilly. "By joining forces with MySQL AB, we can grow the success of the MySQL Users Conference, creating maximum value for users, developers, and everyone in the software ecosystem."

Initially launched in 2003, the MySQL Users Conference provides opportunities for software developers and IT managers to get a detailed understanding of MySQL's software through technology sessions, hands-on tutorials, workshops and face-to-face interaction with innovators and colleagues in the MySQL community, including developers, partners, customers and business prospects from around the world. MySQL User Conference attendees can learn from many of the top database, open source and technology industry experts who convene for this annual event.

Zack Urlocker commented, "O'Reilly is unmatched in its experience in producing technology conferences specifically tailored to the open source market. Co-producing the 2005 MySQL Users Conference with them will ensure that the event will scale to match the explosive growth of the MySQL open source and business communities. More than ever, this will be an important event for anyone who wants an up-close look at MySQL technology and how open source is shaping the future of software."
