  1. The Next AI is No AIIn the near future, artificial intelligence will commonly become intangible, indistinguishable and incomprehensible for humans. No arguments until In this way, AI technologies could evolve into a platform, an infrastructure similar to the Internet, that would allow people themselves to decide the way they utilize AI or contribute to its design and development. We can’t offer people meaningful choice on privacy or security, how will we do this around AI?
  2. Systems Science Ascending — sounds like crankology at the end but sufficiently advanced research is indistinguishable from crankology to me, so I’m keeping an open mind (and have low priors that THIS WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING but reasonable priors that THIS MIGHT BE INTERESTING). We’re digitising everything, building models of the real world with this digital info (Salesforce, for example), but the models are ad-hoc. Metamodeling interests me, on the slim chance they offer general solutions to what are currently seen as specific problems.

  4. Tesla S + Amazon Echo (Teslarati) — wrote a custom Amazon Echo command to tell his Tesla to open the garage door and drive out.
  5. Are You Your Friend’s Friend? (PLoSone) — only about half of “friendships” are reciprocal, influence depends on reciprocity. It’s like the selfish emotional form of advertising: you’re wasting half your friendship, you just don’t know which half.
