Overview
Addy Osmani should be a familiar face to the O’Reilly community. He’s the cohost of our AI Codecon events, the author of Beyond Vibe Coding, Leading Effective Engineering Teams, The Effective Software Engineer, Web Performance Engineering in the Age of AI, Learning JavaScript Design Patterns, and Building Web Apps with Bolt, and a prolific blogger on Radar and with his own newsletter, Elevate. He’s also a longtime Googler who’s spent nearly 14 years building developer experiences in Chrome. Now he’s joining Google Cloud AI to help developers and businesses succeed with Gemini.
In the first episode of Live with Tim O’Reilly this year, Addy sits down with Tim to chat about the lessons he’s learned so far from his time at Google, why he’s feeling energized about his new role, and how it all connects to the excitement developers are feeling about the progress being made in agentic coding workflows—which incidentally is also the focus of our next AI Codecon, happening March 26. (The CFP will be open soon!) Addy and Tim will discuss context engineering, MCP and Skills, and the new discipline of agent engineering. They’ll cover how to mitigate unpredictable behavior in GenAI-based workflows; methods successful teams are already using to build high-quality agents; and other considerations, from product and go-to-market strategizing to developer relations, that organizations need to take into account. They’ll also give you a sneak peek at the upcoming AI Codecon.
