Overview

Power BI for Beginners introduces you to essential tools and techniques that will help you turn raw data into clear, interactive reports. This class goes beyond the basics and gives you hands-on experience with data transformation, modeling, and visualization.

You’ll begin by learning how to import and clean data using Power Query, removing duplicates, handling missing values, and combining data from multiple sources. You'll then explore key tools like unpivoting columns and creating custom or conditional columns to get your data into the right format for analysis.

Next, you'll focus on building data models that allow different tables to “talk” to each other using relationships. You’ll also work with DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to create useful measures like SUMX and CALCULATE, and learn how Quick Measures can make this easier.

Once your data is ready, you'll learn how to present it with eye-catching visuals like gauges, matrix tables, and clustered columns. You’ll use filters to control what your audience sees and learn how to tell a clear story through your reports. Finally, you’ll publish your work to the Power BI Service, where you can edit, collaborate, and share your reports online. Whether you're a student, professional, or just starting out with data, this course will help you build confidence in using Power BI to make data-driven decisions.

This course, will teach you how to:

  • Import data from different sources using Power BI tools.
  • Clean up messy data by removing blanks and duplicates.
  • Use Power Query to shape and transform raw data.
  • Append multiple tables into one for easier analysis.
  • Merge related tables to connect and combine information.
  • Unpivot columns to make wide tables easier to analyze.
  • Create new columns using examples or conditional rules.
  • Add custom columns with formulas based on your logic.
  • Build relationships between tables to connect your data.
  • Write basic DAX measures using SUMX and CALCULATE.
  • Design reports with gauge, matrix, and table visuals.
  • Publish and edit reports in Power BI Service online.
