I want to make sure the buffer in iTunes 10.4.1 is set to Large. I followed instructions on page 101:
Go to iTunes' Preference box, click on Advanced icon, but could not find the Streaming Buffer Size pop-up menu. Am I missing something, or do I need a new roadmap? Thanks for your help.

Whenever you have "manually manage music" turned on, Enable Disk Use is Always on and greyed out. I couldn't figure out why my ipod shuffle (4th gen) was showing up on my desktop until I noticed I could not turn that option off to get rid of. Searching Apple's kbase yielded this. Still happens in latest iTunes 10.4 as well.

"This document explains the "Enable disk use" option in iTunes and under what conditions it is dimmed or enabled, and how to disable it.

The "Enable disk use" option in the iPod preferences in iTunes is enabled, but the text and checkbox are dimmed and you cannot disable the option.

When the "Manually manage songs and playlists" option is enabled, the iPod is in "manual" mode. In this mode, "Enable disk use" is always enabled or turned on. This is a feature of manual mode.

To disable the "Enable disk use" option, select either "Automatically update all songs and playlists" or "Automatically update selected playlists only." Once you have selected either of these two options you will be able to disable the "Enable disk use" option."
