Paragraph above tip and in the tip

In the scroll bars discussion about the new display "When Scrolling" option, it mentions that you can still use a regular mouse/trackball or keyboard with this new option.

In the paragraph above the tip, it says to use the mouse/trackball's scroll wheel to activate the scroll bar.

In the tip, it mentions using the keyboard's page-up page-down keys to scroll.

However, don't both of those only work for vertical scroll bars? What about horizontal scroll bars, which I frequently encounter in finder and other apps?

I did try this new "when scrolling" option with my trackball (with scroll wheel), but I don't see how to activate a horizontal scroll bar without using my MBP's trackpad in this mode. Is there a way to do so?

Thanks for the great book :-).

The paragraph says, "You can also move a window by dragging the solid gray strip on the bottom, assuming you’ve made it appear (choose View→Status Bar or View→Show Path Bar)."

However, View->Show Path Bar does not add the solid gray strip at the bottom. That is only added with View->Status Bar. At least that's the way it is working for me on Mavericks 10.9.5 on my MBP.

My energy saver screen shows only one slider, "Turn display off." There is no "Computer Sleep" slider. I have 10.9.3 on a MacBook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013.
I can't seem to find out how keep the machine from going to sleep, as it interferes with my large uploads.
Thanks.
