The book states that one of the limitations of ranging for an iBeacon is that it must be done in the foreground. While certainly desirable, I have been able to trigger ranging for a short time in the background (upon entering a beacon region). The results are not very good, but it seems possible. Also, the Apple docs do only recommend (not impose) that ranging should be done in the foreground. |
