It should be noted that when booting from a CD image, the file system that the CD is
sitting on is important. Knoppix supports many file systems, but does not support
EXT3 (or probably not FAT16) in the stage of booting. Ultimately I was successful
in coming from an EXT2 partition.

"-root-directory=/mnt/hda1"
should read:
"--root-directory=/mnt/hda1"

2nd code example ("watch df")

Since the sentence before the listing says "use the watch command in a different
terminal", the terminal in the listing should be really different from the usual
tty0, the one on which the long running command in the previous listing was started.
