"Finally, thanks to David Pogue whose unflagging enthusiasm and endurance is (sic) inspiring;"
Should be "are inspiring" ? plural subject -> plural number of verb

Section 11.5.2, point 8

Phone, not email

Point 18 third para reads:
"If you look at the document window now, you see that the email field has a red etc"

Point 18 third para should read:

Step 6

After typing in a new product record and submitting I get the error Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';' in C:\xampp_lite\xampp\htdocs\cosmo_shop\index.php on line 55. But just looking at index.php I see a missing paren. Old code is (line 55) $totalPages_rsProducts = ceil($totalRows_rsProducts/$maxRows_rsProducts = 12; so I changed the code by adding 2 right parens and 1 left paren to make the expression work: $totalPages_rsProducts = ceil($totalRows_rsProducts/($maxRows_rsProducts = 12)); Now the program works fine. The database records were added correctly just the goto page was wrong. I don't know how the index.php file got messed up - probably from the previous tutorial server behavior insert.

Note: (paragraph 2)

"Even more importantly (sic), you'll learn about...."

"Importantly" is not an adverb modifying "learn." It is, in fact, an adjective; the beginning phrase of this sentence actually means, "And what is even more important...."

The correct version is therefore, "Even more important, you'll learn about...."

Fourth bullet

The book reads as follows. "To close an empty tag, you must include a backslash at the end of the tag, like this: <br />." The character is a forward slash, not a backslash. Based upon my research, "backslash" should be changed to "forward slash" in the text.

last paragraph, line 1

After closing the New CSS Rule window, the "CSS Rule definition" window appears.

Dangling participle: "closing" is dangling, because it does not refer to the doer. The "CSS Rule definition" is not what does the closing. The reader does the closing. The grammatically correct version is, After closing the New CSS Rule window, you will see the "CSS Rule definition" window....OR,
After you close the New CSS Rule window, you will see the "CSS Rule definition" window...

Another minor suggestion: in Step 1, you say "...click right below the Chia Vet logo..." To Windows users, click right means to click the right button (which opens a long menu). Step #7 of instructions

The instruction redundantly tells the reader to select the color "white" from the color box.

Also, in trying to build the table described in the tutorial I have failed to get the "collapse-border" property to produce the desired results in my table, ie. the borders fail to collapse to a single line between cells. This property works just fine in the Chapter 07 finished example provided.

Additionally when I apply the ".odd" and ".even" Class CSSs as described on pages 295 and 296, the background color changes in the table cells, however I lose all the formatting set up in the ".products th" Compound CSS. Again the ".odd" and ".even" Class CSSs work flawlessly in the Chapter 07 finished example provided.

I have had no problems with the tutorials up to this point, but I'm now left scratchihg my head. I have read and re-read the tutorial instructions looking for something I missed, but I'm coming up empty. Any help would be appreciated.

step 11

I had been using the context menu (via right click) instead of the insert menu up until this point in the tutorial. When I tried to do this with the "Optional Region" it worked incorrectly every time - the optional region ended up being created AT THE POINT I CLICKED THE MOUSE instead of for the current selection (the Div). Only when I clicked on the thick blue line surrounding the selection did it function as it is supposed to.

Now, I know that the step-by-step in the book doesn't do it this way but in a book called "missing manual" I'd hope to see a warning about this somewhere in the instructions.

The step says to click OK to add the new variable (referring to varProduct), then add some additional language to the SQL box. However, the SQL language must be added first before clicking OK. Otherwise, DW doesn't recognize varProduct as a valid variable name, because it hasn't yet been identified in the SQL box. The sentences in bold should be reversed.

Section "Building a Page for Editing Database Records"

Either I am out of my mind, or the tutorial in this section is seriously flawed. (And I do consider the first one possible.) I have gone through the tutorial 3 times, with the same result: (a) The category and vendor menu drop-downs do not fill out on the form and (b) when I update a product, ALL information on it disappears from the Web page. And (c): In the database, the updates take nicely, except CategoryID and VendorID take on a value of 0.

So ... by anyone's experience, what might I have done wrong?

Step finishes by saying to click OK. However, that closes the box when in fact there is one more step (18) needed to be completed before clicking OK and closing the box. This caused me some confusion when I closed the box in step 17, then wasn't sure where to complete step 18.
