If there was no immediate function, the variable i would remain in the global scope.

While in fact,the variable i still in global scope.
if I update the code to:
(function () {
for (var i = 1; i <= 3; i++) {
document.getElementById('button-' + i).onclick = function () {
alert("This is button: " +i);
};
}
}());
All buttons will show "This is button 4" when clicked.
