Cosmology

For traditional societies the cosmos represented an orderly system, the heavens and the Earth – both the product of a guiding mind. Different cultures have developed very different versions of the cosmos, with different explanations for the patterns of stars in the night sky and their implications for humans and how we should live.

Physicists and astronomers prefer the term “universe”, meaning all the matter and energy we can observe. Cosmology is the study of how the universe started and how it has developed in the billions of years since the big bang, with projections into the distant future.
