Some people think of critical thinking in this way: You are either a critical thinker or you’re not. But this perspective is misleading. Remember, all of us think critically to some extent; all of us sometimes fail to do so. The quality of our thinking occurs along a continuum; each of us thinks at a higher level of quality in some dimensions of our lives than in others. We are all a mixture of critical and uncritical thought. Your goal should be to advance along the continuum, slowly but surely. The more seriously you take your thinking, the further and faster along the continuum you go.
