The National Archives of Australia (National Archives) is considered by many to be a world leader and trendsetter in the field of public sector information governance theory and practice. Its stated purpose is to provide leadership in best-practice management of the official record of the Commonwealth and ensures that Australian government information of enduring significance is secured, preserved, and available to government agencies, researchers, and the community,1 and in this role, it has developed a series of highly regarded standards, as described in further detail later.
