The previous chapter presented core concepts for aligning projects with the organization’s objectives and strategic plan. In this chapter, I present a structure and framework to achieve that alignment. First, I expand on the goals breakdown structure introduced in Chapter 3, “Project Definition and Planning,” and apply it to the entire organization. Then I present how to structure elements that already exist in your organization to promote alignment, ranging from your mission statement to your strategic plan. Finally, I offer a model for characterizing projects to improve resource balancing throughout the organization.
