5 Delivering the Plan
The key to effective project control is to measure actual progress and compare it with planned progress on a timely and regular basis, taking any necessary corrective action immediately.
During delivery of the plan, the controls will need to be continuous. Deviations can occur for any number of reasons and manifest themselves in different ways. Most projects will go wrong one day at a time, and the key is recognizing the aggregating effect of deviations as much as trying to avoid major problems. Table 5.1 provides an overview of the tools that are used in this stage.
