Controversies have negative impacts on organizations when they reduce access to resources. Organizations need access to resources such as raw materials, premises, employees, financing, suppliers, and customers. Those companies that succeed in securing superior access to valuable, scarce, nonsubstitutable resources gain a competitive advantage over others.1
