Chapter 9. The Conceptual Phase: Defining the Project

How well and how thorough the activities of the project’s conceptual or defining phase are done will determine how successful the project will be. In this phase, the project manager is selected, the project is defined against the customer’s requirements and specifications, a core project team is assembled to help plan the project, and all the various pieces of the project plan are started. Exhibit 9-1 depicts the major tasks and activities of this phase and who is responsible for them.
