One Web page does not a site make—something Adobe Fireworks CS4 understands very well. When a designer comps a site, that designer needs to consider the paths taken by typical visitors and the interactivity needed to get there. Fireworks is a sophisticated graphics engine, finely tuned to create both Web-ready graphics and fully interactive Web-oriented comps that allow the client to experience the feel of the site—as well as the look—before any code is written.

This chapter focuses on setting up your graphics in Fireworks to be properly implemented by Dreamweaver (covered in Chapter 6). Here, you'll run the gamut from working with Fireworks text all the way to outputting a client-viewable comp. The core techniques covered include:

  • Incorporating text

  • Applying live filters

  • Setting up interactive comps

WORKING WITH TEXT

Fireworks is right at home when inserting and manipulating text, whether it is for building a logo or adding labels to navigation buttons or content to a page. When entered manually, Fireworks text can be inserted in a line-by-line free-form fashion or into a drawn-out text box.
