Chapter 2. Snowflake Overview

In this Chapter, I will go through an overview of Snowflake. I will explain a little about the infamous 3-layered Snowflake Architecture. Following that, I will provide a short introduction to different Snowflake Objects including the newly introduced Snowflake Applications.

Snowflake Architecture

The Snowflake Architecture is three-layered with the following layers at its core (Figure 2-1):

1. Optimized Storage Layer

2. Elastic Multi-Cluster Compute Layer

3. Cloud Services Layer
