Chapter 2. The Agile Credo
This book embraces Agile values and principles and some Lean techniques as well. But what does this have to do with organization design? Isn’t Agile just a software development methodology?
Well, if we examine the value statements in the Agile manifesto (reproduced in Section 2.1), we find that only one of them (i.e., working software over comprehensive documentation) directly refers to software, and even that can be recast more generally as a working product over comprehensive documentation. These principles are applicable to all of IT (not just the development organization) and even beyond to business in general. Steve Denning1 calls it “the best-kept management secret on the planet.”2
