Chapter 6 — Prompt Regression Testing and CI Integration
You have scorers. You have datasets. You have a runner. Now what? The answer is: regression testing. Every prompt change, every model update, every system modification gets measured against a baseline. If quality drops, you know before it reaches production.
Prompt regression testing is the practice of saving evaluation results as a “golden baseline” and comparing every subsequent evaluation against it. It is the LLM equivalent of snapshot testing in frontend development or golden-file testing in compilers. When the output changes, the test flags it. When the output degrades, the build fails.
