This text is about artificial intelligence (AI) in its many different forms and about scientific discovery across a wide range of disciplines. It has grown out of my years of working precisely in the borderlands between scientific research and digital technology and of observing the interactions between scientists and the information systems that are developed with the objective of (even if they do not always succeed in) making scientific research easier and more automated.
