7.1 INTRODUCTION
The 5G core (5GC) is a virtualized functionality that runs on powerful ×86 servers with a huge amount of compute, memory, and network interface resources. 5GC is designed to deliver large volumes of data with low latency and high reliability. The 5G user plane function (UPF) [1] is a key component of 3GPP's New Radio (NR) mobile core system architecture (Figure 7.1).
