Preface
Algorithms are essential to modern society, driving everything from flight control systems to AI and robotics. This book explains how to specify an algorithm’s purpose, how to outline an implementation, how to turn the outline into reliable code, and how to calculate the code’s complexity.
Formally speaking, an algorithm is a finite sequence of instructions for a Turing machine (an ideal computer) that halts in finite time when executed with any input. Accordingly, the traditional description of an algorithm has been code or pseudocode—that is, a program. Pseudocode is easier to understand than code, but it does not address the difficulties of comprehending code and the well-known prevalence of costly errors.
This book teaches algorithm ...
