I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
A Note on Sources
Research for significant parts of this book originates with the work undertaken to report and produce the CNBC docu mentary, House of Cards (which first aired in February 2009). For that production, roughly 25 people, from homeowners and borrowers to Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, were interviewed on camera. In addition to those people who are quoted in the book, I spoke to many others on background.
Data was used from the Federal Reserve, the U.S. Census Bureau, SEC filings from 1996 to 2009, as well as company reports and press releases of New Century, Merrill Lynch, First Franklin, and Lehman Brothers. I reference data and information from Inside Mortgage Finance, the Mortgage Bankers Association, the Federal Housing Administration, the House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, among others.
Alan Greenspan’s book, The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World (New York: Penguin, 2007), and Phil Gramm’s Wall Street Journal article, “Deregulation and the Financial Panic” (February 20, 2009) provided additional information.
