18. Why Have a Marketing Plan?

Some app developers who are not as familiar with marketing may ask why anyone should spend time developing a marketing plan. The thought of creating a marketing plan conjures up ideas that it must be huge, painful, and lengthy. This is simply not true. A marketing plan needs to be long enough to define a strategy and the components that will give your app a good chance of sales success. It does not need to be composed of binders full of lengthy information. In Chapter 19, “Components of an App Marketing Plan,” we discuss the components of an app marketing plan. Don’t worry about the length of your plan. Rather, make sure it defines how you are going to achieve success selling your app.
