When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 2. Ant
The process by which a collection of files is turned into a running program or deployable Web application can be surprisingly complex. Java files must be compiled into class files, but typically this is just one step in a much more involved process. Prior to compilation, Java files may need to be retrieved from a remote location or generated based on some set of rules. Following compilation, code may need to be tested, and following testing, the classes and auxiliary resources may need to be packaged into jar or war (Web application resource) files. The complete set of actions that must be performed, and the dependencies between them, is called the build process.
