Scripted workflows often must mount and unmount volumes on networks. Communication with network servers is handled by a variety of communication methods or protocols.

AppleScript is able to connect to any file server that can be accessed via the Connect to Server command in the Finder’s Go menu, including iDisks and servers that support the AFP, WebDAV, Windows (SMB, Samba, CIFS), or FTP protocols. In this chapter, we will examine how to mount remote volumes using each of these communication protocols.
