9THE SQUARE-WAVE GENERATOR
Signal generators, also called waveform generators or function generators, create an alternating current (AC) voltage that can be used in a variety of electronic tests and diagnostic procedures. A square-wave generator like the one you will build in this chapter (shown in Figure 9-1) is an electronic lab instrument that creates a continuous sequence of equally spaced pulses of electricity that are on for a certain amount of time, switch off for an equal duration, and switch back on again, repeatedly.
