The tradition of the fantasy world (also known as Sword and Sorcery) is a mixture of myths, folklore, magic, and a romanticized view of the past. The typical fantasy story is set in a world inhabited by mythical beings, where gods take an active role in toying with the world, and magic is the equivalent social force to science: propelling both everyday convenience and large-scale warfare. The stories of JRR Tolkien, the folkloric tradition of Europe, and role-playing games are the sources of my archetype choices.
