Manage Service Instances

The Service Instance is made up of the core binaries, Registry settings, timer jobs, application pages, and so on that make up the actual Service Application. The Service Instance is what gets “installed” when running the Install-SPService cmdlet, as shown in Chapter 4. In reality, the installation is doing nothing more than registering these bits in the Configuration Database and installing any additional components that may be necessary, such as an actual Windows Service. (Most Service Applications do not use a Windows Service.)
