In order to understand batch and streaming data ingestion, we need to understand how data architectures have evolved over time and why the exam focuses on certain topics. To understand the evolution of data architecture, we should look at the applications that are typically the data source for the data engineering pipelines and understand how the application architectures have evolved (see Figure 1.1).
