It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Provisioning a configuration management server
A configuration management server providing storage for configurations and applying those configurations to different environments is always a good strategy for automating deployments. DSC on custom virtual machines, DSC from Azure automation, Chef, Puppet, Ansible are some of the options and can be used on Azure seamlessly for both Windows as well as Linux environments.
