It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Creating Applications with the Facebook Platform
Before you can do much with the Facebook platform, you first need to “register” a new application (assuming you have a Facebook account). You access this form from the Facebook Developers site (https://developers.facebook.com/apps). Simply click on the “Create New App” button and fill out at least an “App Display Name” in the modal window. You do not need to fill out the App Namespace option at this point, but only a short unique name (no punctuation allowed) that allows you to create custom elements when using the Open Graph protocol (discussed later). For now, you can just click on the Continue button (see Figure 8–2).
