Marigolds and cosmos are hearty blooms and last from the scorching days of summer until the first frosty winter morning.
Marigolds represent warmth, creativity, and positive energy. Their bright colors include orange, yellow, and rust, and symbolize power, strength, and the sun’s journey across the sky. In ancient Aztec culture, where they were originally discovered, they were considered a sacred flower because of their use in religious ceremonies and medicinal properties. In The Language and Poetry of Flowers, marigolds represent grief and sadness, and were often given during times of mourning to express unity and sorrow. Their bright colors were meant to help ease the pain and grief.
