Chapter 2. Synchronizing Data through Desktop Manager

In This Chapter

  • Configuring synchronization

  • Mapping fields

  • Confirming changes and resolving conflicts

What better way to keep your BlackBerry updated than to synchronize it with your desktop application's data?

Arguably, most of the data you need to synchronize is from your personal information manager (PIM) applications: memos, calendar, contacts, and tasks. The Synchronize option within BlackBerry Desktop Manager allows you to synchronize your PIM data between your PC and BlackBerry.

In this chapter, we introduce the Synchronize application. We show you how to manually and automatically synchronize your BlackBerry with your desktop computer. We also offer tips about which options you might want to use.

Note

If you're using a corporate BlackBerry that's connected to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), skip this chapter. BlackBerry smartphones running under BES synchronize over the air (OTA) or wirelessly.

Setting Up Synchronize

Synchronize is the program in BlackBerry Desktop Manager that allows you to synchronize your data between your desktop computer and your BlackBerry. You'll find the Synchronize icon on the BlackBerry Desktop Manager screen. To launch Synchronize, simply click the Synchronize icon. A screen like the one shown in Figure 2-1 appears.

The Synchronize screen is divided into two sections, which you can navigate through by using the links on the left:

  • Synchronize: The default view. It allows you to manually trigger synchronization. ...
