Now let's turn away from markets and audiences and look at the films we produce (Table 4.1),
By volume, France and Italy have long been the most important film-producing countries in Europe. Since 1992, however, Italy's output has declined steeply, leaving France in the sole dominant position.
The UK's output has, since 1992, increased sharply. In 1994, some 84 British feature films were made.
The hierarchy, by volume, is France first, Italy second, and Germany, Spain and the UK jointly third.
