Management of Cost Hierarchy

The users of the metered IT resources need to be represented in a cost center structure to determine where the chargeback is assigned. These cost centers represent the different consumers who use the resources, and the chargeback administrator uses the cost centers to assign the chargeback ownership. The cost centers are typically organized in a hierarchical fashion for aggregation and for drilldown in tasks such as cost analysis of an organization’s bill. A sample cost center hierarchy definition in the chargeback application is shown in Figure 7-7.
