Chapter 12. Real-Time Analytics in the Real World

This chapter presents some real-world reference architectures so that you have other examples of how to glue the various parts of the real-time analytics stack together, in addition to what we’ve covered in the worked example part of the book. These architectures will complement the one that we built in the hands-on section of the book.

We will be using fictional companies, but the architectures are based on ones that are being used in production.

Content Recommendation (Professional Social Network)

MySpot is a popular (but fictional!) social network that lets users find and interact with people in their professional network. It offers users a suite of tools that makes it easier for people to find others who have the same interests or who may be interested in collaborating on projects. See Figure 12-1.

MySpot’s main interface is a news feed that shows a selection of content, including articles, job announcements, job postings, and other topics that might be of interest.

Users can engage with others’ content by choosing to react, share, or comment. These interactions not only foster communication among professionals but also provide valuable input for MySpot’s personalization algorithm. The more users engage with the platform, the better MySpot’s algorithm can tailor their news feeds to suit their unique needs and preferences.
