This book presents a number of topics related to building secure cars, focusing especially on helping automotive organizations with assuring the software development lifecycle. Initially, the book gives an overview of the current state of cybersecurity in the automotive industry (Chapter 1). The book then introduces the reader to a number of relevant cybersecurity activities during the development lifecycle of automotive systems mapped to the V‐model development process (Chapter 2). Before doing a deep‐dive on the software development related cybersecurity activities, the book provides some background on automotive hardware security modules (HSMs) that serve as the root of trust for other solutions built on top of automotive systems (Chapter 3). Next, various security solutions for the automotive software development lifecycle are discussed with a focus on the need for automated solutions to reduce effort and improve efficiency (Chapter 4). These include solutions for the product development phases, such as static code analysis, software composition analysis, and security testing, and solutions for the operations and maintenance phases, such as cybersecurity monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and OTA (over‐the‐air) updates. The following chapters then provide additional details for these solutions that automotive organizations can apply. First, solutions for automotive organizations to ...
