StackBlitz, a company already known for pioneering browser-based development environments, released Bolt.new—an AI-powered tool that could generate entire web applications from natural language descriptions. Within days, developers and nondevelopers alike were sharing stunning creations on social media: complex dashboards, interactive games, and full stack applications, all built by simply describing what they wanted in plain English.
As someone who has watched the evolution of web development tools for decades, I knew immediately that this represented a fundamental shift in how we create software. Not since the introduction of visual web builders in the 1990s had we seen such a dramatic lowering of the barrier to entry for application development. But unlike those early tools, which often produced rigid, template-based sites, Bolt.new generates real, production-quality code using modern frameworks and best practices.
Why This Book Exists
When O’Reilly approached me about writing a book on Bolt.new, my first thought was: “Can a tool this intuitive even need a book?” After all, the whole point is that you don’t need to know how to code.
