Chapter 3. The lifecycle of a business intelligence implementation

There is nothing quite like viewing a diagram to bring about a clear understanding of a process. To that end, Figure 3-1 visually describes the process of business intelligence (BI) implementation, from defining what questions users have of data, to implementing a model that helps users explore data via interactive charts, graphs, and reports. All of these elements in Figure 3-1 are a preview into the lifecycle for bringing insights in useful forms to light. What also follows in this chapter is an approach to outline specific actions, roles, and best practices for incorporating what starts as self-service BI to a more formal approach of BI, or corporate BI.
