To get started, here’s a glimpse into the who, what, where and why of this book. First off, the who: I’m Andy Batt and I’m a photographer. In high school, an art teacher (who must have seen something in me that I didn’t) pushed an SLR into my hands. That simple action propelled me through four years at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to study photography, even though I had no idea what it meant to be a photographer. I thought I would just figure it out. I was supposed to be an electrical engineer, but had a moment of clarity when I realized I could pursue something I liked, not just something that seemed like a good career.
