- Adobe
Makers of Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Lightroom, Illustrator, and other photography, multimedia, Web design, and graphics software applications.
- AEB
automatic exposure bracketing. See automatic exposure bracketing.
- AE Lock
A way to lock the exposure in your camera so that if you change the composition, the exposure remains the same.
- AI Servo
A mode letting you focus dynamically, where the lens continually changes its focus as a subject moves closer or farther.
- ambient light
The light that occurs in an environment without you adding flash or other lighting to it. Also called available light.
- aperture
1) Overlapping, mechanical leaves in your camera that open to a precise diameter to allow light to be exposed onto the image sensor. Measured in f-stops, the aperture has larger numbers for smaller openings (for example, f/22 is a small aperture opening; f/2.8 is a large one). A large aperture is essential for creating narrow depth-of-field images. 2) A digital photography workflow application from Apple Inc.
- Aperture-priority
Setting your camera so that it has a fixed aperture size; the shutter speed is adjusted automatically depending upon the amount of light. This mode is indicated on Canon cameras with an Av, which stands for aperture value.
- aspect ratio
The ratio between an image's width and height. For example, a 4 × 6 photo or print has an aspect ratio of 2:3, while an 8 × 10 has an aspect ratio of 4:5.
