The Need and Effect of a New Internet Protocol
In the past 40 years, the Internet has gone from its infancy to being a huge influence in the world. It first grew through research at universities, from the ARPANET beginnings of the Internet in the late 1960s into the 1970s. The Internet kept growing fast in the 1980s, with the Internet’s fast growth still primarily driven by research and the universities that joined in that research. Figure 17-1 shows some of these major milestones.
