There is often confusion about the difference between profiling and posture, and the terms tend to get mixed up. In Chapter 5, “Introduction to Advanced Concepts,” you were exposed to both technologies. Profiling is the technology used to determine what a device appears to be from an external perspective, whereas posture is the technology used to perform an internal examination of a system and report the facts. Posture is covered in Chapter 18, “Posture Assessment.”
