As technology continues to advance, network perimeters are becoming difficult to define. A secure perimeter can be difficult to maintain and no longer offers sufficient protection for a network. The most effective way to maintain a secure network is to implement layers of defense. This chapter looks at the combination of security devices, policies, and procedures that combine to make up a layered defense.
