The Cisco IOS router and Cisco IOS Firewall are actually the same hardware. The difference is a low-cost, advanced Firewall feature set that was integrated into Cisco IOS Software. All the basic functionality of Cisco IOS Software remains on the Cisco IOS Firewall with additional features added, called the Firewall feature set. The Cisco IOS router is commonly referred to as the Cisco IOS Firewall if any of the Firewall feature set components are used. This chapter discusses access to and management of the Cisco IOS Firewall.
