Chapter 17. Identity-Based Networking Services

Cisco Identity-Based Networking Services (IBNS) is a technology framework for delivering logical and physical network access authentication. IBNS combines several Cisco products that offer authentication, user policies, and access control to provide a comprehensive solution for increasing network access security. An IBN incorporates capabilities defined in IEEE 802.1x standard. The 802.1x standard is a framework defined by the IEEE 802.1 working group to provide a standard link layer protocol for port-based access control and authentication.
