Leveraging with Logical Levels
When clients are leading full and busy lives, they can discover they're paying attention to one area of life at the expense of another area and seek ways to change that combination. The Logical Levels model is a classic NLP framework that helps you work with clients to quickly readjust the mix among aspects of their lives by identifying exactly where change needs to happen. This model illustrates the interplay between feelings, thoughts and actions to create a sense of purpose. The model is a powerful tool that shifts clients' attitudes, helping them feel motivated and inspired.
In the NLP world, the word congruence describes the sense of power and ease that comes when you're acting in accordance with what feels right at all the logical levels. You're thinking and acting purposefully, in a state of flow (flip to Chapter 9 for more on flow).
Try sketching out the Logical Levels graphic in Figure 5-2 for your client. The drawing is particularly helpful because it visually breaks down a problem into its component parts, and most people respond to strong visuals. By sharing the model, you give clients a tool they can then use to coach themselves when they're stuck in the future.
